The Department of Education Leadership, Foundations, and Policy in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a non-tenure track assistant or associate professor in the Educational Psychology-Applied Developmental Science (EP-ADS) program. The incumbent will continue to foster the success of the new EP-ADS master’s program which prepares students by developing their knowledge and expertise of children and youth in school and out-of-school contexts. Master’s students learn approaches for developing and evaluating new programs designed to improve the lives of children and youth. The master’s program responds to a national need for increased research capacity in practitioner and research organizations engaged in efforts to improve PreK-16 education and out-of- school settings serving children and youth. The faculty member teaches and advises master’s students and works with the program area director to coordinate the master’s program. Specific duties involve improving curriculum, coordinating the course sequence, overseeing admissions, and supporting program evaluation work in collaboration with program faculty. Additionally, the incumbent creates relationships for internships and coordinates the placement of students at the university and in the community.
A doctoral degree in educational psychology, developmental science, education science, or a related field is required prior to the start date of this position. At least one year of experience teaching in the area of child or adolescent development, applied developmental science, educational psychology, lifespan development or related fields is required. At least one year of experience advising and/or mentoring students from diverse backgrounds is essential. Demonstrated expertise in educational psychology, developmental psychology and education science is required as is experience with program planning and implementation. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with program assessment and in internship development and coordination. Experience guiding the professional development of students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Experience with teaching online is preferred. A record of excellence in teaching in the area of child or adolescent development, applied developmental science, educational psychology, lifespan development and related fields is strongly preferred.
