About Monument Academy
Working with the most at-risk adolescents and established on an innovative model integrating excellent academics with evidence-based, trauma-informed practices, Monument Academy is a weekday boarding school that opened in the 2015-2016 school year with a 5th grade class of 40 students and will have 160 students when we reach full enrollment through 8th grade in 2018/19. The school is currently authorized to expand to 8th grade and maintains the goal of growing through high school so that students will graduate from Monument Academy.

About the Position
As a member of the Well-Being team, the School Psychologist will play an integral role in the development and implementation of a mission-aligned clinical program throughout all aspects of the school. The school psychologist will work closely with the Clinical Director to develop, train, and execute clinical and well-being approaches for the students and staff. Monument Academy is adopting a school-wide Dialectical Behavioral Therapeutic model to increase students’ emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. As such, the school psychologist will be provided extensive training on DBT principles, as well as weekly individual supervision and biweekly group supervision.
The school psychologist will conduct psychological evaluations to provide diagnostic clarification, inform treatment, and determine eligibility for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). They will also have an opportunity to supervise evaluations for post-doctoral candidates conducting psychological evaluations. The job will require close collaboration with the special education coordinator to ensure compliance of student assessments and evaluations.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, development and training of therapeutic groups in the evening, mental health training and psychoeducation for staff and teachers, Consulting with student life homes on best-practices in the homes and collaborating with the clinical Director to develops assessment measures for fidelity to clinical models , measures of effectiveness and benchmarks for success.
Experience, Credentials, and Skills
- Psychologist must hold a license issued by the District of Columbia Department of Health
- Applicants should have a Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or school psychology, and have completed their Pre-doctoral Internship working within the child/adolescent population
- Experience in administering child and/or adolescent psychological evaluations – preferable experience with executive functioning and trauma measures.
- Experience with supervision of graduate students
- Experience in a residential or school setting, and/or program that works directly with at-risk youth
- Experience working with at-risk populations in an urban/diverse setting, and/or working with families involved in the child-welfare system
- Preferred experience providing individual and group therapy to youth and demonstrated success with children and adolescents with high social, emotional, and behavioral needs
- Experience working with traumatized youth
- Cultural competence in working with students and families from different racial, ethnic, linguistic, and sexual orientation backgrounds
- Experience with DBT therapy a plus
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills for understanding and interpreting data to inform instruction and other practices
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize, delegate, manage time and tasks to meet deadlines
- Proven track record working collaboratively with a team and ability to connect with families/caregivers
