The Department of Child and Adolescent Development at the California State University, Northridge welcomes applications for TWO full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor positions beginning Fall 2018.


Candidates must possess a doctorate in developmental psychopathology, atypical development, child/adolescent clinical psychology, child life, child/adolescent development, human development, human ecology, developmental psychology, applied developmental science, educational psychology, early childhood education, social work/welfare or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have a doctorate in hand by August 22, 2018. Specific area of expertise within the field of child and adolescent development is open. The successful candidate will have the ability to articulate the strengths of an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary undergraduate degree program focusing on the study of human development from conception through emerging adulthood. The candidate must be committed to teaching in an undergraduate degree program that prepares students for direct-service careers with children and families and/or for pursuing advanced degrees in the field. Priority will be given to candidates who have or can document the ability to establish a systematic program of research and effectively teach a diverse undergraduate student population. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. Candidates who incorporate cultural perspectives on child/adolescent development, both in teaching and research, are encouraged to apply. Experience establishing and maintaining collaborations with community-based programs is highly desirable. CSUN is a Learning Centered University. At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Teach undergraduate core courses in the degree program and upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise when offered. Maintain an active research program. In addition to promoting the academic success and retention of first-time freshman students, collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement mechanisms that support community college transfer students’ progress toward completion of the degree. Collaborate with community-based organizations and agencies. Serve on department, college, and university committees. Actively mentor students to facilitate the actualization of career & professional goals and objectives. The successful candidate should conduct publishable research and attempt to secure external funding to support research and scholarly activities.  The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends and possibly on-line.
