The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Data Science who will be responsible for research, teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, and service beginning Fall 2024. The research focus for the faculty member in this position can approach data science from a range of theoretical and methodological perspectives, including:
- Developing and researching learning analytics systems at the K-12 or higher education level
- Multimodal learning analytics
- Using educational data mining methods to understand the use of adaptive learning technologies or intelligent tutoring systems
- Using public internet data mining methods to pose and answer policy-relevant questions
- Using machine learning and predictive analytics for assessment and evaluation
- Considering and critiquing the “datafic(ation” of education and the use of machine learning and predictive analytics in educational contexts from philosophical, sociological, or other perspectives
- Supporting teachers’ planning, teaching, and assessment with machine learning and artificial intelligence tools
- Using advanced quantitative and/or computational methods to research teaching, learning, and educational systems
- Data science education—designing and supporting data science curricula and technologies that support learners to do data science
The faculty members will contribute to the development of two new programs:
- Learning Analytics M.A. program
- Educational Data Science Ph.D. program
The faculty members who will be hired may also teach courses in two existing programs:
- Evaluation, Statistics, and Methodology Ph.D. program
- Educational Data Science Graduate Certificate program
