Position Summary:

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at Utah State University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the internationally recognized Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences (ITLS) in the areas of learning analytics and instructional systems design. Individuals who bring scholarly and applied expertise with direct experience in design and development are especially encouraged to apply. Additional cognate areas of interest include: language and literacy, new literacies, and/or advanced learning technologies. Successful candidates will, by the time of appointment, have (1) a doctorate in Learning Sciences, Instructional Technology, Information Sciences, Educational Psychology, or other related fields and (2) have demonstrated excellence or the potential for future excellence in research and teaching. Located on the main campus in Logan, Utah, this is a tenure-track, 9-month academic year position. The role assignment for this position is 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service. Review of applicants will begin December 7 2017, and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2018.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a cutting-edge research program, supervise graduate students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses delivered in face-to-face, broadcast, and online formats. Candidates will have expertise in relevant theories, technologies, or methods and be prepared to teach existing course offerings in the department, especially in master’s degree programs that serve industry, educators, and researchers. The successful candidate will also propose innovative new courses that will serve the needs of our student population and the undergraduate and graduate levels. Successful candidates will be receptive to opportunities for collaboration within the department, college, or university. Candidates at the Associate level will have an established record of productivity and effectiveness that merits tenure at Utah State University, a Carnegie Research University with high research activity.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in research, publication, grant writing, and other scholarly activities.
  • Teach graduate courses as well as some undergraduate courses in the areas of learning technologies and/or instructional design.
  • Serve on and chair graduate student committees and advise graduate students.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, profession, and community.

Dept/College Highlights:

The Instructional Technology & Learning Services department is composed of eleven full-time faculty with specializations in several areas including gaming, STEM education, assessment, the Maker movement, problem-based learning, mobile technologies, cognitive science, digital libraries, and wearable technology. The department offers Ph.D. and Master’s degrees along with endorsements in School Library Media Administration, Distance Learning, and an undergraduate minor in Multimedia Development. Faculty have received national awards for teaching, research, and service, and serve in a variety of leadership positions in professional and scholarly organizations. The ITLS department has a strong track record of procuring research funding from the Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, and other funding organizations.
