Minimum Qualifications:

ABD or Ph.D. in any area of psychology or a closely related field. For candidates who are ABD at time of appointment, the appropriate doctorate is required for retention beyond the first year of employment. A Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education is required for tenure. Candidates should provide a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, involving students whenever possible, using effective methodologies in areas related to multicultural and/or urban psychology. Examples of relevant scholarship include analysis of cultural factors relating to race, ethnicity, social class, sexuality, and language. Candidates should also demonstrate ability and interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic, urban campus, using effective pedagogy. The successful candidate will be committed to the academic success of all of our students and to an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity and differences. In addition, the successful candidate will be ready to join faculty, staff, students, and administrators in our University’s shared commitment to the principles of engagement, service, and the public good.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialty and other undergraduate psychology courses outside of the area of specialty. Bilingual in Asian or Spanish language. Scholarship grounded in theory and research emerging out of Latin, African American, Asian American, and Native American psychology is highly desirable.

 

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students (including supervision of M.A. students), participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Engagement in research activities leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals is required for tenure.

 

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
