POSITION: The School of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Aviation (SEFLA) in the College of Education and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University is seeking a 9-month Teaching Assistant Professor in Educational Psychology to begin in August 2023. Teaching Assistant Professor is a renewable, non-tenure track position eligible for reappointment and promotion. We expect the individual who fills this position to focus attention on coordinating and developing the M.S. program, aggressive recruiting, teaching primarily Master’s-level courses, and advising students who choose the non-thesis option for the M.S. culminating project.
THE PROGRAM: The Educational Psychology program offers a Ph.D. and M.S. degree in Educational Psychology with an online degree option for M.S. students, along with certificates in Learning & Motivation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our program focuses on learning, development, and motivation. We emphasize the application of psychological theories of human development, learning, cognition, and motivation to applied educational contexts and services for children, youth, and adults. Applicants who can apply both these theories and educational contexts to diverse, sociocultural realities will be looked upon favorably.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of this position include teaching Master’s-level courses appropriate to the candidate’s expertise and the program needs (typical teaching load is 3:3), coordinating and expanding the Master’s program, advising and supervising graduate students, and serving the school, college, university, and profession. This position is assigned to the Stillwater campus; however, Educational Psychology faculty also teach in an online format and occasionally on the Tulsa campus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Educational Psychology, the Learning Sciences, Developmental Psychology, or a closely related field. Ideal candidates are expected to demonstrate strong potential for excellence in teaching and administrative skills related to program coordination, including a commitment to and strategies for recruiting students from a variety of diverse backgrounds to expand the M.S. program. Candidates who are ABD will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking a colleague who has a scholarly interest in teacher development, critical thinking, and problem-solving, and can teach a variety of Master’s-level courses in Educational Psychology, including, but not limited to, Creativity for Teachers, Developing Resources for Educational Programs, Human Development in Psychology, and Psychology of Learning. Excellence in online teaching or prior K-12 experience will be highly valued, as are diverse skillsets/competencies and creative pedagogical approaches. Candidates with the potential to develop courses on creativity and problem solving, critical thinking, or teacher development are strongly encouraged to apply. Additionally, we are seeking candidates with potential for increased collaboration with other programs in the college as it relates to teaching or recruitment/service efforts, who are equity-minded and will contribute to a culture of inclusive excellence. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a commitment to OSU’s land-grant mission and have an interest in empirically-based solutions for reducing educational disparities of historically marginalized students within the state of Oklahoma and beyond.
