The Department of Psychology at Christopher Newport University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Psychology, effective August 2025.

The Department seeks candidates specializing in areas such as Counseling, Community, Cross-Cultural, Developmental, Educational, Environmental, Health, Human Factors, Industrial and Organizational, School, and Sport Psychology. The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose experiences contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Applicants must be committed to a teacher-scholar model, demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching with students from varying backgrounds, and maintain a productive research program. Candidates must also be committed to advising and mentoring undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities would include teaching one of our core courses in introductory psychology, statistics, or research methods and courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The nominal teaching load for the tenure-track appointment is 3 courses per semester.

A doctoral degree in Psychology or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. In some cases, exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank, and ABD candidates who will not hold the doctorate by the time of appointment may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
