The Department of Medicine, F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (non-tenure/tenure track). The Department of Medicine is responsible for fostering and assessing the skills, knowledge, and professionalism of students necessary for success in graduate medical education and military medical practice; maintains an academic environment strongly supporting productive basic science and clinical research endeavors; fosters academic excellence through effective faculty development programs, periodic faculty review, and strong support for academic advancement; demonstrates, through a skilled faculty, the role model of a compassionate, dedicated caregiver and teacher as well as an innovative, ethical clinician-scientist; supports military readiness with in-depth expertise on infectious diseases, toxic exposures, wellness measures, and other internal medicine concerns of particular operational significance; fosters academic excellence in professional training throughout military graduate medical education; and provides public presentations supporting graduate and continuing medical education on internal medicine and related topics.
Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Health Professions Education Graduate Program, and as such, will be responsible for teaching, research, and administrative assignments. The primary responsibility will entail serving as associate director for the Master’s and Ph.D. in Health Professions Education Program (MHPE). In this capacity, he/she will lead with curriculum design and development, teaching, research related to courses, the overall graduate program, as well as other initiatives of the department, SOM or USU. Additional responsibilities include preparing, writing, and editing for publications and/or presentations, texts, articles, monographs and other materials for use in the course of study and for research purposes; determining operational requirements, ascertaining the availability of logistic support and writing specifications for needed resources.
Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of Ph.D. degree in a social/behavioral science or related field, plus substantial experience in an academic environment and experience using analytical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS or STATA) to conduct statistical analyses. Experience with qualitative data analysis, planning, writing and implementing grant proposals with a track record of funding in education/medical education areas, and familiarity with military medical personnel training programs and operational requirements are desirable. The incumbent must possess experience in measurement, evaluation, and assessment practices in a formal educational setting, as well as have a track record of successful teaching, scholarship, and leadership in an educational environment. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic policies.

The position sensitivity level is designated as non-critical sensitive and does not require a secret clearance. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the non-critical sensitivity level.
