The Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Full Professor to begin fall, 2014. The position is in the Learning Development and Instruction (LDI) subprogram. Duties involve mentoring Ph.D. level students, conducting research, and teaching two doctoral level courses per semester. The research and teaching of the present faculty in the Educational Psychology program are varied. Interests of those in the LDI subprogram are focused on language development during the early years, literacy acquisition, cognition that involves language comprehension, executive functions and symbolic understanding, socio-cultural factors that affect learning, and technology as a tool for instruction and learning. The Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology also includes educational statisticians in subprograms involving Quantitative Methods and Educational Policy Analysis. The program seeks to add a faculty member whose work complements and is synergistic with the work of the LDI faculty.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Educational Psychology or Psychology and will be an enthusiastic researcher who follows the scientific method and applies quantitative statistical tools to conduct empirical studies. Teaching and research should involve cognition, learning, development and/or instruction. Specific areas of research may be focused on, but are not limited to the following: self-regulation, meta-cognitive strategies, reasoning or problem-solving; mathematics or science teaching and learning; bilingualism and second language acquisition and instruction; adolescent or early adolescent development and learning; and motivational and affective factors involving goals, attributions, expectancies or self-beliefs that impact learning.
The position requires earned doctorate; record of significant academic publications and achievement; established scholarly reputation; and experience teaching and supervising graduate students. The candidate must have a record of significant research published in peer-reviewed journals, an established program of grant-supported research, and be committed to the continued pursuit of grants. Further, he/she must be an excellent teacher.
