We seek a seasoned leader to be a steward of excellence in teaching and scholarship during an exciting time in the department’s development. The successful candidate will have experience in academic leadership (chair preferred), and demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and scholarship. The Department Chair runs and leads the department, oversees student success, works with university partners and serves on the Dean’s leadership team. This is an excellent position for an established teacher-scholar interested in leading an already successful department to greater achievement. UNE is a dynamic institution, grounded in the liberal arts and excelling in the health sciences. It is located on the Southern Maine coast and in the metropolitan area of Portland, listed by Forbes as the number one most “livable city” in the US.

As the second largest department in the College of Arts and Sciences, we house 3 undergraduate majors enrolling about 200 students. In addition to the Psychology major, we are also home to an Animal Behavior major and a Neuroscience major.  We are a vibrant, collegial, and relatively young department, accomplished in teaching, scholarship and student advising/mentorship.

Qualifications

The Department Chair position is a five-year appointment, with the possibility for renewal or extension, to begin by August 2013.  Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Psychology. While specialty is open, special consideration will be given to applicants with expertise in Developmental Psychology and demonstrated leadership success.
