The Department of Educational Studies (EDST) at Purdue University is seeking a visionary department head with exceptional communication and administrative skills, a proven record of successful leadership, and the ability to lead an academically diverse department. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in creating a productive and supportive environment for EDST faculty, staff, and students. Candidates must have a strong record of published scholarship and be eligible for appointment as a tenured Full Professor in one of four department program areas: Counseling Psychology, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Educational Psychology, and Special Education. Professional experience or scholarly expertise with PK-12 teaching, counseling, and/or administration is preferred. It is anticipated that the initial appointment as Head will be for a 5-year term with potential renewal for consecutive terms. This is a 12-month appointment that will become a regular 9-month faculty position when the final term as Head expires.

The Department Head is responsible for leadership of the department’s faculty, staff and academic programs as well as effective use of the department’s financial, administrative, and human resources. The Head works closely with the Dean and members of the College’s Administrative Council to further the mission and vision of the department and college. The Head is expected to advocate for department programs at the state, national, and international levels; participate in state and national educational policy decision-making; support faculty scholarship and teaching innovations; and lead the faculty in strengthening and fulfilling the mission of the department.
