The primary purpose of the Graduate Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern.

This position will support Education Research.

This internship will be approximately 12 weeks.

Candidates must submit the following to be considered for this internship:

  4. Letter of Support from the applicant’s primary academic advisor on university letterhead, confirming the applicant’s enrollment and good academic standing. The letter should also speak to the applicant’s ability to meet the qualifications of the internship and describe how the experience will strengthen the applicant’s program of study.

**Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.  Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

The incumbent must be enrolled in a master’s or graduate degree program from a college or university. Typically, this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the graduate degree program. Where applicable – the degree program must require an internship as a graduation requirement (or offer as a credit option).

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited U.S. university where an internship is a requirement. A GPA of 3.6 or higher is preferred. Applicants should have completed coursework or possess relevant experience in one or more of the following fields: education, psychology, sociology, statistics/biostatistics, public health, data science, health science, or social and behavioral sciences. Candidates should be able to dedicate 15 to 20 hours per week to internship activities, maintaining a consistent schedule, and exhibit strong writing and oral communication skills.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience with advanced research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative)
  • Familiarity with research software (e.g., SPSS, R, MAXQDA, Dedoose, Excel, Qualtrics)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in scholarly writing and academic presentations

Must have authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee).
