The Department of Education seeks to appoint a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to join its Psychology in Education Research Centre and contribute to research and teaching in the field of psychology in education.
Role
We are looking to appoint an outstanding candidate with research expertise in an area of psychology applied to educational contexts, who will contribute to teaching and supervision on the BPS-accredited BSc and MSc Psychology in Education programmes and potentially to other programmes in the Department.
Your role will be to develop an ambitious programme of research (individually or collaboratively) and to lead on and/or contribute to the production of excellent research outputs and research outcomes. You will also be expected to design, develop and deliver teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to carry out supervision and to undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities. We are open to applicants from all fields of psychology (e.g., social, cognitive, developmental, research methods) applied to education settings.
You will join a collegial and supportive group of staff in the Psychology in Education Research Centre (PERC) http://www.york.ac.uk/education/research/perc/. The Department is proud to be recognised as one of the leading education departments in the country.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- You will have a PhD in the field of psychology as it applies to education or in education with a focus on psychology, with appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
- You will have an awareness of national and international education trends and developments in psychology and/ or education.
- You will have knowledge and experience of research in psychology and/or education including a range of research techniques and methodologies.
- You will have specialist knowledge in one or more of the areas outlined in the personal specification.
- You will be able to evidence dissemination of research findings through various means including publications in research journals.
- You will be able to design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules and programmes and have evidence of successful course planning and student supervision.
- You will have the ability to extend, transform and apply knowledge from scholarship and have knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to write publications, develop research objectives, projects and proposals and to disseminate research findings using other appropriate means.
- You will have a commitment to high quality research and teaching, be able to display creativity, initiative and judgement in relation to your work and be able to plan and prioritise your own workload.
- You will be able to demonstrate a collaborative ethos, be willing to work proactively with colleagues and display a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.
- You will show commitment to the Department/University through the undertaking of management and administration duties.
