Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have an active program of research and will have responsibilities for teaching residential and online undergraduate and graduate courses, advising master’s and doctoral graduate students, and providing service to the Department of Educational Psychology, the Faculty of Education, and the University as well as to professional organizations or other external agencies.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Educational Psychology, Learning Sciences or a closely related field with an emphasis on students’ learning and development. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to a significant program of research that has the potential to secure external funding, commensurate with experience.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, commensurate with experience. Candidates must be willing to contribute toward program efforts to support the construction of a newly established masters’ program in Learning and Development.

Candidates must also provide evidence of commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to contribute to the Educational Psychology program’s emphasis on Learning Sciences and Learning Environment Design; Psychology of Emotion, Motivation, and Volition; Personality and Social Emotional Development; Educational Assessment and Statistics; Child/Adolescent Development and School Counseling; and Educational Neurosciences. The ideal candidate will have an active program of theory-driven, empirically based research focused on one or more content areas of learning and development. This research should utilize innovative methods to examine the psychological mechanisms of learning and development, and to design learning environments that promote development for students of all ages. We are particularly interested in strengthening the faculty in the areas of learning and instruction, the design and testing of technology-supported learning environment, the assessments of learning processes and outcomes, and school counseling for children and adolescents.

Faculty of Education

East China Normal University (ECNU) is recognized as one of Shanghai’s top public research universities under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, and is included in China’s national education projects, “Project 211” and “Project 985”. In October, 2014, with the support of university leaders, ECNU established the Faculty of Education based on the former School of Educational Science, School of Preschool Education and Special Education, Department of Educational Administration in School of Public Administration, National Training Center for Secondary School Principals (Ministry of Education), and School of Open Learning and Education in order to further integrate the research resources of educational discipline and enhance its academic influence as well as social influence.

The Faculty of Education positively constructs the modern university system, it has set up Academic Committee, Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, Teaching Committee and Teaching Staff Construction Committee to undertake corresponding academic administration affairs and promote professorate governance. The Faculty of Education consists of 27 teaching and scientific research units. Currently, it has over 3,071 full-time students, including 534 doctoral students, 1,509 master students, 1,028 undergraduate students. The number of faculty and staff members is 437, including 274 full-time faculty members.

Department of Educational Psychology

The Department of Educational Psychology (DEP) is a newly established department in the Faculty of Education. The mission of the DEP is to improve students’ learning and development. The faculties at DEP strive to better understand the psychological mechanisms of students’ learning and development and to design a better learning environment for students of all ages. The DEP is intended to advance interdisciplinary research from a variety of perspectives and offers programs in the areas of educational psychology, child and adolescent development, educational assessment and statistics, and school counseling at both Master’s and Doctoral levels. At DEP, we seek to contribute to the development of theory as well as to provide meaningful solutions to practical problems in the real education setting.
