The College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State University seeks a postdoctoral research scientist in the areas of educational data mining and learning analytics. This position is situated within The Research Laboratory for Digital Learning (http://dl.ehe.osu.edu) in Department of Educational Studies and is funded by a statewide project in designing and developing a K-12 digital content evaluation system. We seek an individual who have substantive interests and experience in educational data mining, learning analytics, and artificial intelligent system design and development, especially recommender systems.

This postdoctoral research scientist will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with project members to engage in the following types of activities: (a) perform data mining over various data sources and building models and algorithms for generating customized recommendations of digital content to schools and teachers, (b) work with IT team to implement the models in the system, (c) work with expert consultants to validate and recalibrate these models. In addition, the research scientist is expected to collaboratively design and initiate new research projects; participate in a program of grant writing; contribute to papers submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals; develop presentations for scientific conferences; and write project reports.

Desired Experience

Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited college or university in learning sciences, computer sciences, learning/instructional technology, educational psychology, applied statistics, or a related field before the starting date of the position. Advanced graduate students who expect to have their degree requirements completed by August 15, 2015 are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have demonstrated prior experience in (a) performing educational data mining and learning analytics, and (b) designing and developing artificial intelligent system, especially recommender systems.

The position, a one-year appointment with annual renewal expected for two years contingent upon satisfactory performance, will begin August 15, 2015. The position is contingent upon the final approval of funding.
