The Darden College of Education and Professional Studies (DCEPS) at Old Dominion University is pleased to offer an opening for a visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2019-2020 academic year. The goal of this opportunity is to promote the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty at DCEPS in conjunction with the Faculty and Diversity Inclusion Committee of the DCEPS.  To further that goal, we are seeking individuals from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups in the US.

The successful candidate will be appointed for a one-year (August –May) special appointment position in one of the six departments of the College. The appointment may be extended contingent on satisfactory progress. The primary responsibility is to conduct high-quality research in one of the broad disciplines based in the college.  Research must demonstrate participation in the academic program as well as the academic activities of the College is also expected.  An additional responsibility is teaching one course in each of the Fall and Spring semesters. An on-campus presence is required.

The successful candidate will receive salary and benefits typical for a first-year assistant professor. An office in the department or program will be provided with appropriate technology and the typical support provided for a first-year hire to support the candidate’s research agenda, including start-up research and travel funds.

  • A cover letter describing the candidate’s interest and qualifications relevant to this position along with an articulation of alignment with a specific program or programs in DCEPS (https://www.odu.edu/eps).
  • One-page research proposal outlining the candidate’s broadly defined research goals. Including any possible collaborations with DCEPS faculty.
  • Two letters of recommendation reviewing the candidate’s research potential.
