Appointment: Eight-month, full-time (in appointment-stream) appointment:  Starting Fall 2023

The Department of Health and Human Development in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh seeks an 8-month visiting assistant professor in Human Development and Educational Psychology.  The work of the department centers on applying advances in developmental and health sciences research to the creation, evaluation, training, and delivery of innovative programs in infancy and early childhood, middle childhood and adolescence, the transition to adulthood, and adulthood.  Expertise and programs in the department include a focus on child life health training, infant mental health, early childhood and families, adolescent learning and adaptation, behavioral health, and out-of-school learning.  We are searching for a scholar-practitioner who has expertise in one or more of these areas and who can extend and complement our work with expertise in other areas including work with underrepresented groups, social determinants of health, mindfulness, health disparities, and improvement and implementation sciences.  The candidate will teach 18 credit hours across the eight-month appointment. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in educational psychology, early childhood development, adolescent development, and applied community-engaged internships.

This position will align closely with the School of Education’s mission-vision and strategic goals and priorities, which lay out our “commitment to equity, justice, and innovation,” and emphasize the School’s cultural drivers, which include: high-quality research; advocating, and agitation; a commitment to student, family, and community success; and cultivation of relationships and engaged partnerships.  We approach learning as intertwined with health, wellness, and human development. The unifying feature of our department is a focus on the activities of living and the integral role of relationships in human growth and adaptation.

We welcome applications from recent doctoral graduates and faculty at the rank of assistant professor who wish to join us for one academic year with a possibility of extension based on department need, available budget, and mutual agreement.

Required:

  • Earned doctorate with training, teaching, and research experience in human development, educational psychology, and/or allied disciplines or fields
  • Experience in community-engaged teaching, research, programs, and training
  • Experience and successful record of teaching relevant curricula (i.e., early childhood development, adolescent development, educational psychology)
  • Experience successfully working with students
